Though the dental cement used to attach braces dries quickly, it will take a full 24 hours for it to bond completely to your teeth. Despite this bonding time, you can eat food after leaving our office. We ask that you please avoid the hard, sticky foods that can damage braces. You may want to eat soft foods while you get used to wearing braces.
It is normal to feel like your braces are sticking out when you first receive them. This feeling will subside as your bite adjusts and as you grow used to having braces. You may also experience irritation with your oral tissues, but you can relieve this discomfort by applying dental wax over the brackets that are causing the problem. Your teeth may feel sore after you receive braces because they are not used to the pressure. You can take over-the-counter pain relievers to help you manage this discomfort. Please contact our team if you would like to learn more about the changes you may experience when you first receive braces.
